  10. What is the relationship to CPIC and the Brokers/Custodians CPIC works with?
Your accounts are held at a brokerage firm such as Charles Schwab, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade, or possibly at a bank trust department.  These financial companies act as custodian for your accounts.  Using the limited power of attorney provided in the CPIC Asset Management Agreement, CPIC will direct trades within your accounts at those firms.  At all times, you retain full control over your account and you have full access to your money.  You may terminate CPIC's agreement at any time without further cost or obligation.  CPIC is a member of  the AllFinancialAdvisors network.

Investment Questions

  1. What is CPIC’s investment philosophy?
CPIC utilizes a disciplined Multiple Manager Approach to improve long-term performance and reduce risk.  Using Dynamic Asset Allocation, we strive to continually emphasize those segments of the market that are currently leading the market.  Likewise, we use Dynamic Style Shifting to emphasize those investment styles (growth, value, etc) that are currently producing the best investment returns.  By combining these two flexible techniques, we believe we can produce better risk-adjusted returns. The exact portfolio composition is customized for your individual situation.

CPIC has an extensive research process that integrates macroeconomic data with asset class and security selection.  See Macro Research and Screening Process.

  4. How often can I expect changes in my investment portfolio?
Your portfolio is reviewed on a regular basis for possible changes.  Frequency of actual change depends on the economic cycle, trends in the stock and bond markets, performance of a particular mutual fund within the account, and changes in your life situation that may require modification to your asset allocation.

  5. What are the advantages of choosing an independent advisory firm like CPIC International over another type of financial consultant, (e.g., stockbroker, financial planner)?
Since our compensation is based on the value of your account, our interests are the same as yours:  to grow the value of your assets.  Our advice is therefore objective.  Stockbrokers and financial planners usually earn commissions regardless of investment performance, creating a conflict of interest.  Also, stockbrokers and financial planners frequently are trained as salespeople--they probably lack the extensive financial education and experience of CPIC’s principals.

Account Questions

  1. How do I make deposits in my account?
You can make deposits by check or by wire, or you may arrange for securities to be transferred from another account.  Checks should be mailed to the custodian of your account, or deposited at a branch office of the custodian.  The check should be payable to the custodian, with your account number written clearly on the check.  DO NOT SEND FUNDS FOR DEPOSIT TO CPIC.  Contact CPIC for wire instructions or for further assistance at (415) 989-1915.

  2. How do I make withdrawals from my account?
There are a variety of ways to withdraw funds from your account, the details of which will vary depending on the brokerage/custodian you have chosen.  Options usually include an electronic link to your local checking account, a wire transfer to a bank, a debit card linked to your account, and checks (non-retirement accounts only).  Checks can usually be mailed to your home or picked up at a branch office of the brokerage/custodian.  Call CPIC to discuss the method that is most convenient for you.

  5. What do I do if I forget or lose my password?
Simply click the "I forgot my password" link on the login page and the system will send a new temporary password to the email address you registered with CPIC.  The first time you log in with your new temporary password, you will be prompted to create a new personalized password. Note that the new password you create cannot be the same as the old password you have lost or forgotten - the security system will not allow you to reuse an old password. Since only you will know the password you create, CPIC cannot provide you with your personal password in the event it is lost or forgotten.

  7. What kinds of security measures are being taken with my online account information?
CPIC is concerned about maintaining the privacy and security of your account information. That's why our site is secured by an industry standard 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL), and why we require you to create a personal password that only you know. The SSL security system encrypts account information transferred electronically between you and CPIC. Personal account information cannot be read by outside parties, even if intercepted. You, too, are responsible for the security of personal account information when using online services. You should never reveal your password to anyone.
